SKC announced on June 12 that it has signed a comprehensive business agreement on “eco-friendly, high-tech materials” with Hai Phong City at its headquarters in the Jongno district of Seoul.

Based on this agreement, SKC plans to incrementally review investments in eco-friendly materials and future advanced materials businesses in Hai Phong City.

Hai Phong City, one of Vietnam's five centrally controlled cities alongside the capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the south, is known as a premier port city and a key industrial hub. It has attracted about US$10 billion (approximately 13 trillion won) in investments from numerous Korean companies and aims to transition into a sustainable industrial city by attracting high-value advanced material and eco-friendly material industries.

SKC has been establishing a global expansion base through investments in Southeast Asia. In 2021, the company broke ground on a large copper foil factory with an annual capacity of approximately 50,000 tonnes in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, through its copper foil business investment company, SK nexilis. This factory is expected to be completed in the second half of this year and will begin full-scale production operations.
