IBM has announced the launch of its 2022 IBM Impact report. The report covers the company's initiatives and progress in the areas of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

IBM introduced the IBM Impact framework in 2022, outlining its approach to ESG with three pillars: Environmental Impact, Equitable Impact, and Ethical Impact. These pillars reflect IBM's progress and plans to create a more sustainable, equitable, and ethical future.

Some of the key highlights from the 2022 IBM Impact report are:

  • IBM surpassed its target of training 1,000 ecosystem partners in technology ethics and plans to train 1,000 suppliers in technology ethics by 2025.

  • The company has made progress in its commitment to invest $250 million in skills-first transformation and has hired over 900 apprentices through its apprenticeship programme in the U.S.

  • IBM has enrolled over 7 million learners in free IBM courses to skill 30 million people by 2030, collaborating with over 20 historically black colleges and universities on IBM Cybersecurity Leadership Centers.

  • The company's diversity practices have resulted in increased representation for women globally and Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Pan-Asian employees in the U.S.

  • IBM made progress towards its goal of achieving net-zero operational greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, reporting a 61.6% reduction in emissions since 2010 and avoiding 71,000 MWh of energy consumption and 25,600 metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2022.

  • The company diverted 93.8% (by weight) of its total non-hazardous waste from landfill or incineration.

Arvind Krishna, IBM's Chairman and CEO, commented, "We are proud of the progress we have made, but we recognize that our efforts to advance our environmental, social, and governance goals are an ongoing journey of improvement. The commitment and dedication of IBM employees to this important work and their pursuit of a better future for all is truly inspiring."

With over a century of existence, IBM has a rich history of aligning its business goals with broader societal and environmental impacts. The company released its first environmental report in 1990 and has been promoting diverse hiring practices for more than 50 years.
