Hilton: 7 Years of Impact, Recognised Globally
Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc
Hilton has announced its seventh consecutive recognition on both the World and North America Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).
Maintaining its exclusive status as the sole hospitality company acknowledged by DJSI, the most esteemed benchmark for corporate sustainability performance, Hilton reaffirms its unwavering commitment to Travel with Purpose.
This accomplishment signifies Hilton's leadership in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, marking a pivotal year for the hospitality giant as it spearheads responsible travel and tourism initiatives within the industry.
Katherine Lugar, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Hilton, reflects on the company's founding principles, stating, "Hilton was founded on the belief that hospitality can be a powerful force for good, and that founding purpose still guides us today in the work we do to care for our communities, advance opportunity, and protect the environment."
As Hilton concludes this milestone year, the company's inclusion as the lone representative of the hospitality sector on the Dow Jones World and North American Sustainability Indices stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of its team members.
This accolade underscores Hilton's unparalleled, science-based approach to measuring and mitigating its environmental impact.
Pioneering as the first major hotel company to establish science-based carbon targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Hilton utilises its award-winning ESG management system, LightStay, to gauge performance and monitor progress toward its Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals across a global portfolio of nearly 7,400 hotels.
LightStay data since its inception in 2009 reveals a 44% reduction in carbon emissions intensity and over $1 billion in utility cost savings across Hilton's global hotel portfolio. The recent ranking follows Hilton's representation of the hospitality industry at the United Nations COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, where the company reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging data trends to scale meaningful action against food waste.
Throughout the year, Hilton has remained dedicated to enhancing the communities in which it operates, extending support to community members in times of disasters, promoting sustainable travel for guests, creating pathways to careers in hospitality, and actively contributing to the preservation of the picturesque destinations where Hilton establishments are located.
This impactful work, intrinsically linked to Hilton's core business, strives to make a tangible difference for both people and the planet. Hilton's ESG leadership has garnered recognition in various prestigious rankings, including being named the #1 Top Company for ESG and the #4 Company for Philanthropy by Fair360 (formerly DiversityInc).
Additionally, Hilton is the sole hospitality company acknowledged on the Dow Jones Sustainability World & North America Indices (S&P Global), currently scoring in the 92nd percentile within the industry. Other accolades include the Human Rights Campaign Equality 100 Award, the Highest Sustainability Perceptions Value by Brand Finance, and recognition on 3BL's 100 Best Corporate Citizen, Newsweek's America's Most Responsible Companies, and PEOPLE's U.S. Companies that Care lists.
