Highlights

  • Schneider Electric adds AI to the Wiser Home app to control home energy.

  • This will optimise energy use for water heaters and electric vehicle chargers and save homeowners €100-500 per year.

  • Works for homes with and without solar panels, with weather forecasts and dynamic tariffs to maximise savings.

Schneider Electric, the energy management and automation leader, has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature on the Wiser Home app.

As always, Schneider Electric is committed to sustainability and smart home energy. Homeowners, builders and installers will benefit.

This is a market first, managing major household power loads - water heaters and electric vehicle (EV) chargers - through the Wiser Home app. The Wiser Home app is Schneider Electric’s home energy management solution. Users can monitor, control and optimise their energy use through the app. Developed in-house by Schneider Electric, this feature reduces energy bills through automated load management and tailored energy consumption scheduling.

Using a predictive algorithm, this feature learns from user habits, real-time weather data, energy tariffs and solar production to shift energy usage. Schneider Electric’s own technology keeps all user data safe and does not transfer it externally.

Buildings are responsible for 37% of global CO2 emissions from energy and processes, with homes accounting for 20% of that. As electrification and New Energy Landscape technologies like solar panels and EV chargers become more common, home energy systems are getting more complicated. Dynamic tariffs add another layer of complexity. Schneider’s AI solution solves this by reducing the mental effort to manage energy use and cut bills.

The feature predicts the best times for EV charging and water heating and links these to daily needs and energy availability. Homeowners can adjust schedules or override settings to avoid energy use during holidays or start charging or heating straight away.

For households with solar panels, the AI feature optimises energy use based on solar production and weather forecasts to shift energy throughout the day. In Schneider’s lab tests, homeowners with solar panels saved €400-500 per year and those without saved €100-150. These figures are based on French market data and may vary depending on individual home installations and energy providers.

Michael Lotfy Gierges, Executive Vice President of Schneider Electric’s Home & Distribution Division said: “With record energy costs and record temperatures, homeowners are looking for tools and technology that can help them better manage their energy consumption and cut their energy bills. Artificial intelligence provides an entirely new level of optimization that can empower homeowners to be more efficient and save money, without compromising on comfort.”

He added: “Here at Schneider Electric, we are proud to be at the forefront of developing innovative solutions that help drive efficiency and electrification, always with the guiding principle of working towards a more sustainable future. Our new AI feature is a prime example of this and addresses a real consumer need to simplify optimized management of their household energy consumption.”

The feature is available to Wiser Home users in Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and Austria with the Wiser Hub, Schneider Electric PowerTag sensors, an EV charger and a water heater controller. Schneider Electric will roll out more of this technology in the future with updates for larger home energy loads.
