Corbion, the sustainable ingredients company listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, has announced the successful mechanical completion of its circular lactic acid manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand, in accordance with the previously disclosed timeline.

The lactic acid produced by this innovative facility boasts the lowest carbon footprint among existing manufacturing technologies. The recycling of processing chemicals eliminates the need for lime and, consequently, the formation of gypsum as a by-product. This inventive approach proves to be more cost-effective than traditional methods.

Olivier Rigaud, CEO of Corbion, said, "We are delighted to announce the mechanical completion of this innovative facility. This significant progress underscores our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of our customers, shareholders, and the planet. It shows Corbion's commitment to sustainable business practices and the creation of value. It demonstrates that we are pioneering more effective ways of conducting business that positively impact our world."

With the successful installation of critical mechanical systems, the facility has entered the commissioning phase, involving functional testing of equipment and systems. The commissioning process is anticipated to conclude by the end of Q1 2024, with startup shortly thereafter.

Corbion's core purpose, "to preserve what matters," is evident in the robust safety culture maintained throughout the 2.5 years of constructing the new plant. The project, which engaged more than 2,000 contractors simultaneously, achieved an impressive milestone of over 5 million working hours without a single lost-time incident.

Gerwin Meulenbeld, VP Projects-Operations, said, "This achievement would not have been possible without every person involved prioritising safety. We appreciate the dedication, expertise, safety mindset, and sense of urgency that all our employees and contract partners have brought to work every day on this very special project."
