  • The companies are speeding up SAF production in Ethiopia.

  • The goal is to cut carbon emissions and support sustainability.

Ethiopian Airlines has partnered with Satarem America Inc. to produce and use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Ethiopia.

This tie-up enables the airline and the country to move toward a greener future and achieve sustainability in aviation.

SAF is a cleaner alternative to traditional jet fuel, made from sustainable sources that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The partnership helps Ethiopian Airlines use SAF to lower their carbon footprint and support global climate action.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew, says: "We are excited to partner with Satarem America Inc in our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future. The adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel is not just a business decision; it reflects our commitment to combating climate change and investing in innovative solutions that support a sustainable industry.”

The airline has a strong sustainability record of modernising their fleet, improving flight efficiency, planting trees, and recycling. Using SAF will support their sustainability initiatives and other ESG goals.
