  • Cespa introduces sustainable detergents.

  • The company will expand its production to Asian and European markets.

Cepsa Química, a multinational oil and gas company in Madrid, Spain, has announced the launch of NextLab Low Carbon for Europe and Asia.

The new product is made in its factories by reducing greenhouse (GHG) emissions. The company uses renewable energy instead of fossil fuels to produce it, and the production process significantly reduces environmental impacts and is the first of its kind in the chemical industry.

To understand the viability, Cepsa carried out research, and it said NextLab Low Carbon emits 19% fewer greenhouse gases than Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) made with fossil fuels. The company first started making this product in Canada for the American markets in 2023. Following its success, it will, for the first time, start production for Asian and European markets from its facility in southern Spain, which is one of the top factories in the world for chemical production.

According to Carlos Molina, the Vice-President of Global Surfactants, expanding the production of the product to Asian and European markets supports its goal of becoming a climate-neutral company by 2050. Also, it helps them work closely with customers who want to reduce their carbon footprint and make environmentally friendly detergents.

LAB is a critical component in biodegradable detergents used in household and industrial cleaning products, and Cepsa Química is a global leader in making it. It is very effective, works in sync with other ingredients, and is used in detergents such as powder, bars, capsules, and liquid forms.

The company has developed a new system to track GHG emissions accurately in its production process. The Spanish certification body, AENOR, validates the company's claims through audits and verifications. The certification can also be used for its other product lines in the future.
