Key Takeaways

  • ALBA Group is rolling out a new hydrogen-powered truck in Berlin.

  • After introducing electric trucks, ALBA now adds a hydrogen-powered truck to its fleet.

  • Hydrogen fuel cell technology is more flexible and requires less charging infrastructure than battery-powered vehicles.

ALBA, a Greman-based waste management and logistics company, is advancing green transportation by expanding its fleet with new vehicles.

After rolling out electric trucks across Germany, the company has now launched its first hydrogen-powered truck in Berlin.

This truck stands out from traditional electric vehicles by generating electricity on-board with a hydrogen fuel cell, instead of relying on large batteries. It also has a smaller battery to handle power surges and store energy from braking. The technology offers more flexibility since the truck can be refuelled quickly and does not need the extensive charging infrastructure required by battery electric vehicles.

ALBA's COO, Rainer Kröger, says: "ALBA was the first company to sign a climate and environmental protection agreement with the city of Berlin in 2020. We are working consistently and continuously to achieve the goals we have formulated."

Dr. Christoph Franzke, Managing Director of ALBA Berlin and ALBA Cottbus GmbH, says: "The test phase in Berlin and regular operations in Cottbus will give us important insights for a possible expansion of our fleet towards this future-oriented form of propulsion."
