Siemens and Automotive Cells Company (ACC) have signed an agreement to work together. Under the terms of the deal, Siemens will become ACC's preferred provider of automation, digitalisation, and electrification technology, allowing the company to increase production while increasing plant and energy efficiency.

The collaboration is part of the Siemens Xcelerator open digital business platform, which was released in June of this year and promises to speed up digital transformation through a curated portfolio of IoT-enabled hardware and software and a commitment to strong relationships. This partnership will make it easier and faster for ACC to move on with its plans for large-scale gigafactories.

Siemens will let ACC use its Digital Enterprise line of hardware and software, which includes solutions for production design, product design, product lifecycle management, and energy management. Siemens and ACC will start by making detailed digital twins of the battery and the production lines. With the help of Siemens Xcelerator's Totally Integrated Automation and Teamcenter software, ACC will be able to better connect design and manufacturing to scale up production.

 Yann Vincent ACC CEO said:

"The growth of a European equipment industry is a key to ACC's success. ACC wants to be the leader in Europe for automotive battery cells and modules. We need to help set up a whole ecosystem for batteries that includes the whole value chain. In this perspective, being able to rely on Siemens is very important for ACC. Throughout the project, Siemens Xcelerator offers the perfect set of solutions for our needs."

Simultaneously, Siemens is expanding its presence in the battery production industry. Siemens had already signed several technical partnerships with big companies, which showed how well-versed it was in this fast-growing and changing field. The ACC's gigafactories will make more high-performance, low-cost EV batteries available in Europe. This will speed up the revolution in the auto industry.

Cedrik Neike, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO Digital Industries, said:

"Sustainably designed and produced batteries are good for the planet and good for our business, as they power the green transition and drive new growth. As a prime partner in the transformation of the automotive industry, it is natural for us to join forces with ACC, as we aim to jointly develop a sustainable European electric vehicle battery production.”

The agreement between ACC and Siemens goes beyond the typical relationship between a customer and a supplier. It also includes cooperation in the areas of IT/OT connectivity.

The MoU also covers infrastructure solutions, including energy management to create a carbon net-zero factory, and involves potential financing options via Siemens Financial Services. It is a showcase of the depth and breadth of Siemens’ technological leadership.
