Unblock Bags $13.5M to Transform Flared Gas into Computing Power

Energy infrastructure startup Unblock has secured $13.5 million in fresh funding to expand its innovative efforts to transform wasted energy into computing power across Latin America. The round will help the company scale its operations, which focus on reducing carbon emissions while creating economic value for energy producers.
Founded in 2021, Unblock is addressing two pressing challenges in the energy and tech sectors: Energy waste and the demand for high-performance computing. The company achieves this by deploying modular data centers at remote energy sites. These portable facilities are designed to harness flared natural gas, often burned off as waste, and curtailed renewable energy from wind or solar farms that exceed grid capacity.
According to Unblock, this approach prevents approximately 142,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. Instead of letting valuable energy go to waste, the captured power is used to run data centers, supporting a range of computing tasks, including cloud services and potentially blockchain processing. The CEO and Founder of Unblock, Tomas Ocampo, shared the following:
"We are building at the crossroads of AI’s explosive energy demand and Latin America’s vast bottlenecked energy resources. Latin America’s infrastructure constraints create the perfect breeding ground for flexible computing. We envision an elastic computing network that flexibilizes midstream infrastructure while also smoothing volatility in the power grid."

The company’s model reduces environmental impact and offers energy producers a way to monetize excess energy that would otherwise be lost. By hosting data centers directly at energy sites, Unblock helps avoid the logistical and transmission challenges that typically come with connecting remote energy to traditional grids.
This funding round reflects growing investor interest in energy-tech solutions that blend sustainability with profitability. As demand for computing power continues to surge, driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital currencies, Unblock’s strategy could position it as a leader in green data infrastructure.
With its eyes set on Latin America, Unblock plans to deploy additional modular data centers in regions where energy flaring and renewable curtailment remain significant. The company believes its solution could play a critical role in advancing both digital and climate goals for the region.
