Warwickshire County Council has unveiled an energy strategy to advance the region's sustainability goals.

The plan, focusing on reducing, utilising, generating, and measuring energy, aligns with the council's commitment to becoming a net zero entity by 2030.

The recently introduced Energy Strategy and its accompanying action plan provide a structured approach for the Council to address its energy requirements.

Emphasis is placed on minimising energy consumption, optimising usage, incorporating renewable energy sources, and implementing strong measurement systems. The primary focus is on council-owned properties, including offices, libraries, family centres, business hubs, fire stations, schools, and country parks.

Acknowledging the broader impact of its energy consumption, the Council recognises its responsibility to collaborate with partners in supporting Warwickshire residents and businesses to enhance energy security.

Councillor Heather Timms, responsible for Environment, Climate, and Culture, stresses the comprehensive nature of their sustainable energy management approach, highlighting the necessity for substantial financial investment. The strategy extends its benefits beyond the Council alone, actively encouraging Warwickshire residents and businesses to adopt sustainable energy practices.

Integrating strategic priorities, net zero objectives, and stakeholder support, the Energy Strategy aims to pave the way for Warwickshire's sustainability in the present and future generations. To ensure effectiveness, the strategy will be reviewed after its first year and every three years.
