Salesforce, a leading cloud-based CRM platform, has launched a groundbreaking AI-powered Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting feature within its Net Zero Cloud. The tool aims to address operational challenges by simplifying the measurement, analysis, and reporting of corporate environmental impacts.

This development comes in the wake of the International Sustainability Standards Board's (ISSB) recent release of new ESG reporting standards, where the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) guidelines play a crucial role in effective implementation.

Salesforce's ESG report-building tool prepares organizations for the ISSB standards while aligning environmental metrics with the SASB's focus on enterprise financial performance and sustainability.

The tool employs generative AI to generate reports for 14 industries, enhancing transparency and aiding decision-making on ESG impacts, risks, and opportunities, including scope 3 emissions.

Beyond ESG reporting, Salesforce believes that generative AI has significant potential to revolutionise sustainability efforts across organisations. However, VP and GM of Salesforce Net Zero Cloud, Ari Alexander, emphasises the importance of responsible innovation to ensure the technology's ethical and inclusive deployment.

Automated data collection and AI-powered analytics can accelerate and improve data analysis, providing valuable insights that may be overlooked manually. However, the responsible use of AI also entails developing right-sized models to mitigate energy consumption-based carbon footprints associated with training and running complex AI models.

By embracing sustainable AI practices, organisations can harness the full potential of technology to advance their ESG reporting and sustainability goals responsibly.
