Netflix's U.S. workforce grew by over 10.8%, as a result of the number of black employees in the company increased by more than 40% from 2020 to 2021, the company stated in its second annual inclusion report. Black employees now hold more than 13% of leadership positions in the U.S, while women employees represent more than half of the company's full-time employees and leaders worldwide.

The Hispanic workforce, however, continues to be underrepresented among full-time staffers, according to the data. The other historically excluded communities, including Asian, Native American, Pacific Islanders, Middle Eastern or North African now represent more than 50%, up from less than 45% in 2020.

Vernā Myers, VP of Inclusion Strategy at Netflix, while presenting the updates, said there are several initiatives kicked off by the company, including expanding inclusive hiring training for recruiters and hiring managers, adding Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and more HBCUs to the company’s pipeline programs, working to improve its culture of inclusion and belonging, and expanding its inclusion strategy team.

Myers said: “We have a lot more work to do, particularly in recruiting more Latino/a/x, Indigenous and other historically excluded talents in the U.S. We’re also improving how we understand the representation of our workforce outside of the US reporting requirements – like additional gender identities, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, and in other countries.

“Transformational change won’t happen overnight. Progress takes consistent discipline, heart and practice. We’re committed to doing our part in inspiring change within our industries — so more people can feel seen, heard, and supported to contribute at their best.”
