FedEx has committed over $1,000,000 (USD) worth of in-kind shipping to support those impacted by the catastrophic earthquakes in Southern Turkey and Northern Syria.

The company arranged for a FedEx MD-11 to be chartered overnight from Dubai, UAE, to Istanbul, Turkey, dedicated to relief efforts. This marks the fifth consecutive flight taking place between February 17 and 21, transporting around 230 metric tonnes of relief supplies consisting of household supplies, baby items, hygiene kits, blankets, and tents from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

“FedEx is committed to helping the many communities impacted by the earthquakes during this incredibly difficult time,” FedEx President and CEO Raj Subramaniam said. "The brave work of first responders and humanitarian groups inspires us, and we're happy to use our global network to donate flights, logistics support, and aid to help with recovery, rebuilding, and relief in the region."

FedEx has helped non-profits and governments respond to the crisis by using its global network and expertise in logistics. Here are some of how FedEx has contributed to relief efforts:

  • Donated $100,000 to the Red Cross for recovery efforts in Turkey and Syrian communities, providing essential aid such as food, water, first aid, blankets, temporary shelters, medical care, and psychological support.

  • Transported critical humanitarian supplies, including food supplies from Umursan Un Ltd. and clothing donated by residents, from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport to Malatya, Turkey on behalf of the Istanbul Governorship and local municipality.

  • Provided shipping support to Canadian disaster-relief organisation GlobalMedic, delivering AquaResponse3 Water Purification Units to feeding centres in the impacted area of Turkey.

  • Collaborated with U.S.-based World Central Kitchen to ship aid, including a deployable kitchen unit, kitchen supplies, and operations kits, from Madrid, Spain, and Capitol Heights, Maryland, U.S., to Adana, Turkey.

These relief efforts were part of FedEx's "Delivering for Good" initiative, a FedEx Cares programme in which the company leverages its global network and logistics expertise to support organisations with mission-critical needs and help communities before, during, and after crises.
