Emburse, a leading spend optimisation firm, has partnered with GreeMko to assist companies in fulfilling their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, specifically in the area of sustainable travel. This alliance aims to help companies make more responsible and sustainable travel choices.

Through this partnership, Emburse will provide customers of its Emburse Captio expense automation solution with rich data and greater insights by calculating the carbon footprint of employee expenses.

Once an expense is entered into Emburse Captio, the information will be converted into tonnes of CO2 equivalent, leveraging data supplied by GreeMko. With this information, companies can report their total carbon emissions more accurately, meet the standards of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Scope 3, or get ISO 14064 certification.

GreeMko's carbon footprint calculations are based on the guidelines set by the GHG Protocol and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The GHG Protocol is the international accounting tool that business and government leaders use most often to understand, measure, and control greenhouse gas emissions.

GreeMko helps businesses measure and reduce their carbon footprint by providing solutions to address the emissions that fall under Scope 3, which includes activities such as corporate travel.

“We’ve entered a new era of business travel, and the need for sustainability is even more critically important than before. Yet just like other areas of accounting in a business, if carbon emissions are not tracked, they’re not being managed,” said Eric Friedrichsen, CEO of Emburse. “Through the partnership between Emburse and GreeMko, businesses can harness reliable, accurate data to enhance their reporting, budgeting, and guidance around carbon footprinting. This will also equip leaders with insights to guide travel policies and identify the most sustainable options.”

“For many companies, improving their sustainability efforts begins with better measurement,” said Jorge Portillo, CEO of GreeMko. "GreeMko makes it easier to meet increasingly strict legal requirements and, most importantly, to improve efficiency and sustainability, which means less damage to the environment."

The partnership with GreeMko is one more example of how Emburse is using data and technology to address sustainability efforts. Additionally, Emburse's Emburse Go solution already allows users to see the carbon footprint of their trips, and companies can view data from all employee trips in a central dashboard.
