Callback on Wall Beds Sold at Amazon and Costco after One Fell on Woman, Killing her

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that over 1,00,000 Bestar wall beds sold at Amazon, Costco and Wayfair recalled following one had fallen on an elderly woman, killing her.

The agency and Bestar of Canada warned that the beds could go off the wall and fall onto someone nearby, causing impact and crush hazards.

The woman, a septuagenarian, died in July 2018 due to an injury to her spine following the fall. Bestar logged more than 60 additional incidents resulting in bruising and other injuries.

People who have wall beds at their houses should stop using them and review communication from the company to estimate if any professional reinstallation is required. Bestar covers the costs that range from $170 to $414 and offers free inspections to those who are uncertain.

The wall bed brands such as the Nebula, Versatile, Edge, Audrea, Lumina, Orion and Novello Full and Queen etc., were recalled following the incident. Around 1,29,000 beds were sold in the U.S. from June 2014 to March 2022. In Canada, more than 50,000 were sold.
