Auckland Savings Bank (ASB) has appointed Sam Friggens to accelerate its climate transition efforts. The new role will help the bank operate sustainably.

Before joining ASB, Sam worked for Mott MacDonald, a global consultancy firm, and moved to New Zealand from the UK in 2022. He has worked on several sustainability causes, including clean technology, renewable energy, and climate resilience.

ASB Executive General Manager Corporate Banking Jonathan Oram said: "Sam is an exciting addition to the ASB team, bringing a wealth of very relevant and valuable global experience and perspectives. Climate transition is a key priority for us and for many of our corporate, business and rural customers.”

He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Change and Management from Oxford University and has written papers on topics such as achieving net-zero carbon emissions and utilising renewable energy.

In his new role at ASB, Sam will focus on developing products and services that help the bank's customers transition to more sustainable practices. He will also use his expertise in climate and clean technologies to reach ASB's climate ambitions.

Sam said, “I am looking forward to getting stuck in and helping to deliver tangible support for ASB customers on the climate transition journey and working with the wider sustainability team within ASB to develop and implement our vision for a sustainable future.”
