In a significant move towards advancing sustainable development, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has named Joe Hooper as the leader of the Global Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development in Singapore.

Established in collaboration with the Singapore government, the centre focuses on developing innovative solutions for sustainability in key areas such as digital finance, urbanisation, climate resilience, and digital public goods.

The centre plays a pivotal role as a knowledge exchange hub, facilitating collaboration among policymakers, practitioners, think tanks, and businesses. It serves as a platform to showcase exemplary sustainable development innovations, enabling the sharing of ideas and best practices.

With Joe Hooper at the helm, the centre is expected to drive transformative change and foster the development of cutting-edge solutions that address pressing global challenges. Joe Hooper, an experienced professional with 22 years of service within the United Nations, has taken the helm as the director of the Global Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development in Singapore. He succeeds Bradley Busetto, who has moved to New York to assume the directorship of UNDP's Sustainable Energy Hub.

Hooper's extensive background with the United Nations includes his previous role as a senior advisor in the UNDP's executive office. In this capacity, he worked on notable initiatives related to public sector digital transformation, sustainable finance, and fintech.

Throughout his career, Hooper has also collaborated with the UN Secretariat, focusing on business transformation, and served in various leadership positions with UN Habitat. These roles included heading the office in Palestine and serving as the global branch coordinator for urban legislation, land, and governance.

Hooper's dedication to sustainable development has taken him to different parts of the world, contributing to UNDP's projects in Sri Lanka, Slovakia, Albania, and Kosovo. With his vast experience and comprehensive understanding of global development challenges, Hooper is poised to lead the Global Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development to new heights of excellence and impact.
