Windstream, a telephone service company, has been rated as a top company in terms of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance by Morningstar Sustainalytics.

Morningstar Sustainalytics, a leading ESG research and ratings firm, has recognised Windstream for the second year in a row. As of January 31st, the company ranked fourth in the telecommunications services industry in the United States and Canada out of 224 companies. Windstream was also the only telecom company from the US to make the Top Rated list.

“Windstream is proud to be recognised as an Industry Top Rated company and a Regional Top Rated company for the second year in a row,” said Tony Thomas, Windstream president and CEO. "Our ongoing commitment to making progress on ESG factors is an important sign of good citizenship and a key to creating value for our stakeholders."

Windstream received a score of 13.4 for its ESG Risk Rating from Morningstar Sustainalytics as of December 2022. The company's score for Risk Management, which looks at how well its ESG programs work, went up to 73.7. This places Windstream in the "Low Risk" category, indicating a low likelihood of experiencing significant financial impacts from ESG factors.

The ESG Risk Ratings from Sustainalytics measure how exposed a company is to material ESG risks in its industry and how well its risk management programmes work. The ratings provide a quantitative measure of unmanaged ESG risk and are comparable across industries. The scores determine the level of risk in five categories: negligible, low, medium, high, and severe. The ESG Risk Rating takes the ideas of exposure and management and puts them together to make an overall evaluation of ESG risk.
