Taylor Morrison, a leading American homebuilder, has achieved a significant honour by being included in Newsweek's prestigious 2024 America's Greenest Companies list.
This exclusive compilation spotlights only 300 U.S. companies recognised for their outstanding commitment to sustainable business practices. It signifies Taylor Morrison's dedication to environmental stewardship and its role in preserving resources for future generations while simultaneously setting a high standard for further advancements.
Sheryl Palmer, Chairman and CEO of Taylor Morrison, emphasised the profound opportunity that homebuilders hold in shaping a more sustainable future. The company takes this responsibility seriously and is keenly aware of the environmental concerns of today's consumers. Taylor Morrison's approach involves creating communities that adhere to exceptional construction standards, prioritise energy efficiency, and offer nature-friendly experiences.
Earlier this year, Taylor Morrison unveiled its fifth annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, providing transparency regarding its sustainable business practices and outlining its future plans. Notable environmental strategies and achievements from the past year include:
Appointing Taylor Morrison's first-ever Corporate Director of Sustainability to drive the company's sustainability strategy.
Conducting an initial assessment of the company's Scope 1, 2, and 3 Greenhouse Gas inventory, which serves as a benchmark for refining its long-term carbon reduction strategy, in addition to aligning with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures.
Continuing its exclusive partnership with the National Wildlife Federation to promote biodiversity and preserve natural open spaces across Taylor Morrison communities. This partnership has resulted in the establishment of 72 Certified Monarch Butterfly Gardens, over 7,622 acres of Certified Wildlife Habitats®, and 12 Nature Play Spaces™, with more than 100 additional projects underway.
Introducing new construction quality standards aimed at enhancing production efficiency, reducing warranty costs, and minimising liability.
Aligning ESG disclosures with the standards set by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) while also referencing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where appropriate.
Committing to selecting sustainable sites for new communities and implementing a land investment strategy that factors in environmental impacts, flood risk, wildlife and biodiversity, water stress, wetland impacts, and wastewater and pollution management.
Ensuring that all Taylor Morrison homes adhere to third-party, industry-recognised certifications and standards, including the HERS® Index Score, ENERGY STAR® appliances, and water fixtures bearing the EPA's WaterSense label.
Embracing Moen Eco-Performance showerheads and faucets for all their homes, which consume up to 30% less water and 45% less water, respectively, than the industry standard. In 2022, these products are estimated to have saved 218 million gallons of water and reused over 1,670 pounds of ocean-recycled plastic.
Chad Eby, Taylor Morrison's Director of Sustainability, expressed the meaningful recognition the company has received for its environmental efforts, especially during this pivotal stage of their sustainability journey. As the company's first Director of Sustainability, Eby looks forward to collaborating with teams across the country to formulate a comprehensive plan for managing their carbon footprint and advancing their sustainability practices.
Newsweek's assessment, carried out in collaboration with market data research firm Plant-A and impact data and analytics provider GIST Impact, identifies the top 300 U.S. companies that prioritise environmental sustainability.
These companies have a minimum market capitalisation of $5 billion and adhere to the sustainability guidelines established by the European Union.
