Kraft Heinz Publishes 2023 ESG Report
The Kraft Heinz Company
The Kraft Heinz Company has unveiled its 2023 Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Report, titled 'Together at the Table.'
This comprehensive report showcases the company's strides towards achieving its ambitious objectives of nurturing the communities it serves and contributing to the well-being of the planet through innovative initiatives and collaborative efforts.
The report emphasises the progress made across the three core pillars of the company—Healthy Living & Community Support, Environmental Stewardship, and Responsible Sourcing.
Miguel Patricio, CEO and Chair of the Board of Directors at Kraft Heinz, expressed the company's commitment to responsible leadership in the food industry. Patricio highlighted the significant impact the company can have globally, leveraging its size and scale to make positive contributions to communities, consumers, employees, and partners. He emphasised the collective effort in pioneering solutions that transform products and leave a lasting positive impact.
Key Achievements Across the Three ESG Pillars:
Healthy Living & Community Support
Kraft Heinz is dedicated to prioritising its people, enhancing product nutrition, and creating meaningful moments for communities. The company is actively pursuing data-driven diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) strategies, reinforcing partnerships focused on hunger relief and nutrition support, and continuously improving the nutritional profile of its product range. In 2022, Kraft Heinz achieved notable milestones, including surpassing two DEI&B representation goals and providing around 334 million meals to those in need.
Environmental Stewardship
In its commitment to addressing environmental challenges, Kraft Heinz is driving innovation across its operational footprint and value chain. The company is actively involved in sustainable packaging initiatives, collaborating with industry groups to enhance recycling infrastructure and explore alternative materials.
In 2022, Kraft Heinz made significant strides, such as contracting renewable electricity in Europe and the U.S., collaborating with Pulpex to create a paper-based, renewable, and recyclable bottle, and achieving zero-waste-to-landfill status for certain facilities.
Responsible Sourcing
Kraft Heinz is actively working across its value chain to promote sustainable practices and offer responsible choices. The company is particularly focused on responsible sourcing, addressing areas such as human rights, deforestation, animal welfare, and sustainable agriculture. In 2022, Kraft Heinz achieved milestones like sustainably sourcing 75% of HEINZ ketchup tomatoes and advocating for gender equality in Brazilian logistics.
Rashida La Lande, Executive Vice President, Global General Counsel, and Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer at Kraft Heinz, emphasised the transformative potential of collaborative efforts.
She acknowledged the progress made but recognised the journey ahead. La Lande highlighted innovative partnerships, such as the one with Pulpex, and strategic investments, including in renewable electricity, as crucial elements propelling Kraft Heinz toward its goals and advancing the industry.
The 2023 ESG Report adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting standard, aligning with the principles of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for food and beverage companies and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD).
