Kohl’s Publishes 2022 ESG Report

Kohl’s has released its 2022 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report.

It presents the progress made towards the company's 2025 ESG objectives, highlights the awards and accolades received in the past year in relation to ESG, and discloses significant information concerning environmental sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion, philanthropy, workplace, supply chain, and business continuity.

According to Tom Kingsbury, the CEO of Kohl’s, as a prominent omnichannel retailer with a nationwide presence, it is our responsibility to be a responsible corporate citizen and create a positive impact in the communities they operate in.

He expressed his enthusiasm for the future of Kohl’s in this realm and took the opportunity to express gratitude towards the dedicated and loyal team of associates across the country who continue to work towards the company's goals, making Kohl’s, communities, and the planet better each day.

Highlights of Kohl's Sustainability Efforts in 2022:

  • For the fifth consecutive year, Kohl's was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America, recognising the company's commitment to sustainability and its performance in this area.

  • Kohl's achieved ENERGY STAR® certification for 54 of its buildings, showcasing its dedication to energy efficiency.

  • The company recycled over 5 million pounds of plastic film, bags, and wrap, as well as more than 10 million pounds of hangers, contributing to waste reduction and environmental sustainability.

Highlights of Kohl's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives in 2022:

  • Introduced Sonoma Community, a brand that focuses on creating collections that embrace diversity and promote unity.

  • Demonstrated an increase of over 37% in spending with diverse suppliers and expanded the supplier count by 70%.

  • Committed nearly $8 million to support various diverse communities, including Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI), Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, veterans and active military members, and women. This brings Kohl's closer to its goal of donating $20 million by 2025.

Highlights of Kohl's Philanthropic Endeavors in 2022:

  • Made a historic donation of $10 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America over the next three years. This funding will be utilised to develop and deliver trauma-informed training to Club Staff.

  • Kohl's associates volunteered over 75,000 hours of their time to support more than 1,900 charities, showcasing their commitment to giving back to communities.
