Colt Data Centre Services (DCS), a leading global provider of hyperscale and large enterprise data centre solutions, has released its latest Sustainability Highlight report, encompassing the period from January 1st to December 31st, 2022.

Unveiled as Colt DCS' highlights report, this publication focuses on three strategic areas: decarbonising the business, connecting people, and safeguarding operations.

Notably, Colt DCS has achieved a remarkable 52% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 (market-based) emissions, as well as a noteworthy 28% reduction in Scope 3 emissions compared to 2019. These significant reductions underscore the extent of the company's sustainable practices as a leading player in the data centre industry.

The Sustainability Report for 2022 also features other key highlights, such as a 30% reduction in emissions across all Scopes when compared to 2019. Additionally, Colt DCS has attained an impressive global Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 72 and procured 100% renewable energy for all European data centre sites.

These achievements demonstrate Colt DCS' dedicated efforts to meet ambitious sustainability targets, reflecting its ongoing commitment to minimising environmental impact, promoting social responsibility, and driving positive change within the global data centre industry.

Sustainability is deeply ingrained within the company's ethos, with all stakeholders working tirelessly towards shared environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. Colt DCS remains resolute in its commitment to continuous improvement, striving to advance and evolve its ESG strategy in the years to come.

The 2022 Sustainability Highlights report highlights Colt DCS' significant accomplishments in the areas of ESG throughout the year. It emphasises the company's commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2045, its partnership with EcoVadis, resulting in a top 1% sustainability rating, and its ongoing efforts to set industry standards in ESG practices within the data centre sector.

Prepared in collaboration with the Colt Group, which comprises Colt Data Centre Services and Colt Technology Services, this report showcases the comprehensive approach taken by the company to address ESG considerations.

Decarbonisation stands as a key pillar in Colt DCS' ESG strategy and has been a primary focus for the company. The sustainability targets approved by the Science-based Targets initiative (SBTi) align with the latest Net Zero Standard.

Colt DCS has successfully reduced its carbon footprint by 30% compared to the 2019 baseline, resulting in an estimated reduction of 186,487 tonnes of CO2e (Carbon dioxide equivalent). Achieving this reduction has been facilitated by employing 100% renewable energy across its UK and European data centres, all of which are 100% carrier-neutral sites.

Additionally, the company has effectively engaged suppliers and implemented innovative cooling technologies. Colt DCS ensures that new data centres, including the ongoing expansion in Paris, adhere to the environmental requirements specified in the Global Reference Design Document.

Colt DCS' ESG strategy extends beyond environmental sustainability to encompass a strong focus on social engagement. The company recognises the significance of stakeholder engagement across its value chain, including customers, suppliers, local communities, and employees, to make a lasting positive impact in the regions it operates.

Colt DCS encourages employee engagement and has established partnerships with local charities, forming employee-led corporate social responsibility (CSR) teams to identify fundraising initiatives and volunteering opportunities. The local communities serve as contributors to Colt DCS' workforce, involving local contractors and service providers in the construction of the company's data centres.

Recognising the significance of effective governance in pursuing inclusive objectives, Colt DCS took proactive measures during the pandemic by introducing designated Wellbeing Days to prioritise the mental and physical health of its workforce.

These initiatives resulted in an impressive 78% engagement with the company's People Matter survey. The survey outcomes highlighted notable strengths in areas such as Diversity & Inclusion, Customer Focus, Empowerment, Sustainable Engagement, and Well-being & Stress.

Colt DCS is committed to cultivating an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives and reflects the communities it operates in. In addition to fostering an inclusive working environment that embraces diverse representation, the company is dedicated to implementing equitable business practices that enhance the employee experience. Going forward, it will continue to invest in employee development and strengthen its partnerships with suppliers and customers, aiming to create an inclusive and sustainable future.
