BCD Travel has once again achieved an impressive Platinum rating from EcoVadis, a globally recognised authority on business sustainability evaluations.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the travel management company (TMC) has secured this prestigious accolade, placing them firmly in the top 1% of the 100,000+ companies scrutinised by EcoVadis.

In this assessment, BCD has also been designated as 'Advanced' within EcoVadis' Carbon Action Module, a comprehensive solution that integrates carbon management and sustainability ratings to promote decarbonisation throughout the supply chain.

Joseph Tremonti, the Customer Success Manager, EMEA at EcoVadis, commended BCD Travel's remarkable progress since their initial evaluation in 2011. He noted their consistent efforts to enhance performance and make a significant impact, solidifying their reputation as a global leader in sustainability. The Platinum rating underscores BCD's commitment to aiding clients in achieving their sustainability objectives.

This independent recognition underscores BCD's unwavering dedication to climate, social responsibility, and ethical practices. In tandem with their alignment with global initiatives such as the UN Global Compact, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and the CDP, BCD reaffirms its standing as a sustainable supplier of choice.

Olivia Ruggles-Brise, BCD’s Vice President of Sustainability, emphasised the core role of sustainability in BCD's vision, mission, and values. She introduced a novel Sustainability Framework designed to harness the influence of their networks in fostering a more sustainable world. Under this framework, they collaborate with their company, employees, business partners, and customers to stimulate sustainable change.

One area where they wield this influence is through TripSource®, BCD's traveller engagement and booking platform. A prime example is the introduction of an innovative AI-driven accessibility widget in TripSource, which widens accessibility for travellers with diverse needs.

This inclusive tool accommodates users with visual, auditory, physical, and speech impairments, thereby creating a more inclusive travel environment for all. Additionally, TripSource users can now access estimates of carbon emissions for nearly all flights and filter hotels with electric car charging stations, facilitating more sustainable choices at the point of purchase.

BCD's consultancy division, Advito, advances sustainability through its Sustainability Collaboration™ Practice. Leveraging the ISO-certified reporting methodology GATE4 as its foundation, Advito has introduced the Environmental Quality Service Index for supplier negotiations and the ISO-certified Carbon Emissions Calculator for meetings and events.

Moreover, BCD enforces a Supplier Code of Conduct, encompassing standards related to ethical business practices, human rights, labour standards, privacy, and environmental protection. BCD expects all suppliers to consider the Supplier Code a holistic supply chain initiative and adhere to these ethical principles.

Ruggles-Brise affirmed that sustainability is an ongoing journey for BCD, and they encourage others to join in. They emphasise that it necessitates a collective effort across the entire industry, with clients, partners, and employees continually driving each other toward a sustainable future for business travel. BCD's focus remains on taking actionable steps that prioritise positive impact, and they invite all stakeholders to join in this mission.

In 2024, BCD's priorities include:

  • Investing in new products and services to promote a sustainable travel culture for customers.

  • Implementing a robust supplier due diligence process.

  • Expanding social impact initiatives to enhance benefits for their people and communities.

  • Further reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through enhanced energy efficiency and renewable energy utilisation.

  • Defining, measuring, and establishing targets for Scope 3 emissions, encompassing business travel, employee commuting, and purchased goods and services.

In June, BCD published its 2023 Sustainability Report, summarising their goals, activities, achievements, and progress in 2022. This comprehensive report also underscores BCD's commitment to the UN Global Compact, SDGs, and SBTi, aligning with the Global Reporting Initiative standards.
