The ranking stands to considerably benefit the company’s ESG credentials and give it a more positive reputation. The evaluation was based on a couple of indicators, like the overall policies and processes that cover environmental aspects, along with human rights and human resources within the company.
The company has scored, impressively, in the 97th percentile amongst the 4,885 companies assessed by the global rating agency Moody’s across all sectors around the world. It is important to note that Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has been both the first official port in India and the third in the world to sign up for the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) that helps cut carbon emissions worldwide and aims to keep the global average temperature increase at 1.5 degree Celsius.
ESG is critical as a guiding framework to help businesses make the transition to sustainability. The disclosure of ESG ratings by companies, audited by third-party services, helps in building transparency and developing investor and public confidence in businesses. ESG practices have become mainstream as companies are now held accountable and pressurized by global authorities to take action on the environment.
The growing aim of companies now is to pursue profitability while developing policies that are socially responsible towards the environment through changes in the governance structure that drives policy implementation. Adani Ports has made a demonstrable impact by becoming the first Indian port to keep environmental, social and governance aspects in mind while catering to the overall business requirements.
