Revolutionizing hotel construction: Populus, the first carbon-positive hotel

In Denver, United States is constructing the first carbon-positive hotel by the real estate developer Urban Villages will officially open the doors of its 256 rooms in 2023.

The Populus hotel has been conceived from top to bottom in research for the best practices to have a positive impact on the environment which makes it the first-carbon positive hotel. The carbon footprint for this project has been calculated ahead of any construction needed in the project and turned out to be positive.

The conception was based on sustainable design and construction and sustainable ecological effort offsite. Efforts were made on the whole building from the outside including the windows and facades to the design of the rooms with no disregard for the attractiveness of the hotel to the potential customers.

Carbon positivity goes beyond eliminating the carbon emissions and creates a positive impact on the environment, which is why there is an ongoing planting of an equivalent of 5000 acres of forest to be able to offset the hotel’s carbon footprint. The Populus hotel is also committing to adding more trees regularly to be able to continue its positive impact on the environment.

Populus is meant to be an example of change and revolution in the sector of real estate, which will attract more travellers and encourage more green practices. According to Hydrofinity, going green would even help the hotel save money along with saving energy, as LED lights last about 50,000 hours compared to an incandescent bulb’s meagre of 1,200 hours.
