Global sportswear company PUMA is taking an important turn towards a more sustainable future. Their revolutionary RE:FIBRE programme, which recycles materials to create new garments, has grown considerably.

Millions of replica football jerseys for the upcoming 24/25 season will be made with at least 75% recycled materials, including textile waste and other discards.

Compared to the 46,000 RE:FIBRE jerseys produced in 2023, this is a considerable increase. PUMA wants to decrease its reliance on plastic bottles for recovered polyester while also reducing textile waste. They are doing this by investigating different recycling strategies that enable them to greatly increase their recycling capacity, like thermo-mechanical and chemical approaches.

PUMA's Chief Sourcing Officer, Anne-Laure Descours, says:

"RE:FIBRE gives football fans a tangible example of how PUMA is working towards creating a Forever Better. Our wish is to have 100% of our polyester products created from textile waste. Rethinking how we produce and moving towards a more circular business model is important and RE: FIBRE is central to that.”

The event coincides with the launch of the AC Milan and Manchester City home replica kits, worn by teams playing in upcoming NYC matches.
