Key Takeaways

  • PUMA expands its RE:FIBRE programme, using recycled textiles for millions of jerseys.

  • Replica jerseys for 35 clubs, including Euro and Copa América, are now made with RE:FIBRE.

  • PUMA aims for 100% recycled polyester products, promoting a circular business model.

  • Fans can celebrate at PUMA's NYC store with limited edition upcycled badges and workshops.

Global sportswear company PUMA is taking an important turn towards a more sustainable future. Their revolutionary RE:FIBRE programme, which recycles materials to create new garments, has grown considerably.

Millions of replica football jerseys for the upcoming 24/25 season will be made with at least 75% recycled materials, including textile waste and other discards.

Compared to the 46,000 RE:FIBRE jerseys produced in 2023, this is a considerable increase. PUMA wants to decrease its reliance on plastic bottles for recovered polyester while also reducing textile waste. They are doing this by investigating different recycling strategies that enable them to greatly increase their recycling capacity, like thermo-mechanical and chemical approaches.

PUMA's Chief Sourcing Officer, Anne-Laure Descours, says:

"RE:FIBRE gives football fans a tangible example of how PUMA is working towards creating a Forever Better. Our wish is to have 100% of our polyester products created from textile waste. Rethinking how we produce and moving towards a more circular business model is important and RE: FIBRE is central to that.”

Celebrate Sustainability with PUMA in NYC

To celebrate this achievement, PUMA is hosting a special weekend of activities at their flagship New York store. The event coincides with the launch of the AC Milan and Manchester City home replica kits, worn by teams playing in upcoming NYC matches. Fans of PUMA, AC Milan, and Manchester City are invited to join the celebration and learn more about the RE:FIBRE journey.

Here's what's in store:

Saturday, July 20th: Grab one of the 100 limited-edition badges crafted from match-worn jerseys by Jack Grealish and Christian Pulisic. These unique collectables, designed by upcycler Andrew Burgess, celebrate the expansion of RE:FIBRE.

Sunday, July 21st: Join Andrew Burgess for three upcycling workshops. Learn how to customise and extend the life of your clothes. Fashion enthusiasts will have the opportunity to transform a RE:FIBRE t-shirt into a sporty, one-of-a-kind garment.

Become a Part of the Change

PUMA's commitment to sustainability benefits both the environment and fashion-conscious consumers. Participating in these NYC events allows you to celebrate your achievement while also learning useful upcycling ways to increase the life of your own apparel.
