A Christchurch-based franchise has made a significant contribution by aiding in the recycling of over 500 million plastic straws spread across driveways throughout the United Kingdom.

Oltco, a specialist in sustainable resin bound driveways, has successfully recycled over 500 million plastic straws using its innovative and environmentally friendly solution called Recycle Bound. This achievement has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of Oltco's regional franchises.

One franchise that has played a significant role in this endeavour is located in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole and is led by franchisee Rob Wilson. Oltco praised the franchise for its substantial contribution to the recycling of plastic straws by actively promoting the Recycle Bound resin and educating customers about its benefits.

Recycle Bound resin is produced by using waste plastic, including straws, plastic drink bottles, and packaging, collected from plastic recycling centres. Remarkably, each square meter of Recycle Bound contains the equivalent of 3,000 plastic straws. For instance, if a standard 70 square meter driveway were covered with Recycle Bound, approximately 210,000 plastic straws would be recycled in the process.

Rob Wilson, managing director of Oltco in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole, expressed his enthusiasm for Recycle Bound, emphasising how the product not only enhances the appearance of driveways and pathways but also contributes to environmental sustainability. He highlighted the importance of educating others about the significance of preserving the planet while offering a more sustainable solution for creating visually appealing driveways.

The success of the franchise area in promoting Recycle Bound and driving customer adoption has played a crucial role in Oltco's remarkable achievement of recycling 500 million plastic straws. Oltco's franchise model, devised by co-directors Tom Stringer and Johnny Pearce, has enabled the company to expand its business nationwide.

With an impressive network of over 51 franchises, Oltco has expanded its reach significantly.

Recycle Bound, the sustainable resin bound solution, has garnered recognition and adoption beyond residential driveways. It has been successfully installed at renowned visitor attractions throughout the UK, including prestigious locations such as the Eden Project, National Trust Sheffield Park & Garden, Bodmin Jail Hotel, and Blackpool Sea Life Centre.

These high-profile installations showcase the versatility and appeal of Recycle Bound in various settings, further solidifying its reputation as an environmentally friendly choice for surfacing solutions.
