KnowESG_MYGroup Strengthens UK Recycling with WRAP Initiatives
After joining Textiles 2030 last month, MYGroup is now among the few organisations involved in all three of WRAP’s voluntary agreements.

Key Takeaways

  • MYGroup has signed up to the UK Plastics Pact and Courtauld Commitment 2030 and Textiles 2030.

  • The agreements focus on reducing plastic waste, food waste and the environmental impact of textiles.

  • The waste management company will report on recycling progress and be involved in policy development and collaborative projects.

  • They have already diverted waste and demonstrated practical sustainability.

MYGroup has taken a big step in changing the UK’s waste and recycling landscape by joining the UK Plastics Pact and Courtauld Commitment 2030, both voluntary agreements run by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

They have also recently signed up to Textiles 2030, making them one of the only organisations to be signed up to all three of WRAP’s key agreements.

The voluntary agreements run by WRAP bring together policymakers, businesses, local authorities and other stakeholders to address environmental impacts across three areas: food, textiles and plastic packaging.

The UK Plastics Pact aims to reduce the environmental impact of plastic packaging by eliminating problematic plastics, improving recyclability and increasing the use of recycled materials.

Courtauld Commitment 2030 commits to reducing food waste, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable water management in the UK food and drink sectors. Textiles 2030 is about reducing the carbon and water footprint of textiles in the UK through circular practices.

By signing up to all three agreements, MYGroup will report annually on its operational and recycling progress and contribute to WRAP’s overall goals. They will also join various working groups, share best practices and be involved in policy and regulatory development and collaborate with other members on projects and trials.

MYGroup’s involvement in these WRAP agreements shows their commitment to waste management in the UK. By being involved in plastics, food and textiles, they will influence industry standards, be part of big collaborations and help develop policies that promote waste reduction and recycling.

Steve Carrie, Group Director of MYGroup, said: “MYGroup’s decision to join all three of WRAP’s flagship voluntary agreements reflects our commitment to shaping the future of waste management in the UK. By engaging across plastics, food and textiles, MYGroup is well-positioned to influence industry standards, participate in high-level collaborations and contribute to the development of policies that drive effective waste reduction and recycling."

Helen Bird, Head of Material Systems Transformation at WRAP, said: “We are delighted to welcome MYGroup to both the UK Plastics Pact and Courtauld 2030. The recycling sector has a critical role to play in transforming the food, plastics and textiles systems, and achieve the targets of our voluntary agreements. Innovation is key, particularly as we reach the hard yards, and we are excited to see the collaborative actions of MYGroup to mitigate the huge environmental impact of the food system and mitigate against the plastic problem alongside our other members."

MYGroup’s commitment to WRAP’s plastics and food waste is evident in their current projects, including successful take-back schemes with brands like Boots, Johnson & Johnson and Harrods, which have diverted over 250 tonnes of plastic waste from landfills. Their projects with The Hut Group, Fera Science and the Biorenewables Development Centre are all about tackling hard-to-recycle materials and a more sustainable future.
