Zingbus, India's largest online bus booking platform, joins forces with Sequoia-backed Climate Finance company Climes to embark on a sustainability journey.

Since May 2022, the travel startup has offered carbon neutrality as an option to passengers in 500-plus cities in 17 states with a fleet of over 350 buses.

At least 65% of passengers have offset their carbon footprints using Climes' API, which can be found on the zingbus checkout page. Passengers have offset almost 500,000 kilos of CO2 emissions by helping with forest regeneration and other nature-based solutions.

Neutralising emissions for a person travelling from Delhi to Manali might cost as little as INR 3, which is contributed to verified carbon reduction projects on the Climes platform.

In a press release, the company said that a passenger could do something to help the environment with Zingbus and Climes with just one click.

Prashant Kumar, CEO and co-founder, Zingbus, said:

“Zingbus is a mobility company, and our first step towards sustainability was to serve more passengers per bus per day so that we could automatically decrease carbon emissions by 15%-20%. Second, with Climes, we encourage our passengers to pay a small amount to cancel out their carbon footprint. At least 65% of our users have opted for carbon neutrality at checkout ever since we launched this service in mid-2022.”

Anirudh Gupta, co-founder, Climes, said:

“As the first bus service in the country to offer carbon neutrality as an option, Zingbus is redefining what the future of travel in this country will look like and is driving the shift towards sustainable tourism. Having partnered with multiple brands across the industry, like MakeMyTrip and Roamhome, Climes is working towards offering Indian consumers an end-to-end travel experience that is carbon neutral and sustainable.”
