Eco-Products® has introduced a new product line to help people easily tell compostable items apart from non-compostable ones.

The Veridian™ line includes cups, lids, containers, and utensils, all clearly marked as “Compostable” and carrying the BPI Certification Mark. They also feature green or brown colours to make them stand out.

Wendell Simonson, from Eco-Products, says clear labelling is vital for everyone involved, from food service operators to composters.

Contamination from non-compostable products is a big issue for composters. It is causing problems for composting efforts and adding to landfill waste, which harms the environment.

The Veridian range has over 50 items, from cups to cutlery, all meeting new labelling rules in Washington state and Colorado.

These rules aim to tackle contamination and make it easier to spot compostable items. Eco-Products also launched the “CIRC” Programme to help deal with contamination in the food service industry.

Simonson stresses the importance of keeping non-compostable items out of organic waste streams, and clear labelling is a big part of that effort.
