Gloucester Rugby has extended its hydration partnership with the Water Coolers Direct (WCD) Group – as part of its sustainability strategy.

At Kingsholm Stadium, fans, staff, and players can use several water systems that are environmentally friendly and provide chilled and filtered water.

The WCD Group, based on Gloucester Business Park, has installed several high-capacity, plumbed-in refill water dispensers, bar taps, and chillers in high-traffic areas such as the stadium bars (Stowford Press Clubhouse and Lion's Den), as well as the newly named Cooper Associates 1873 Lounge and Reception, for use on match days and by conference delegates. Water coolers are also in use at the club’s training ground for players to refill sports bottles and stay hydrated.

Pete Glanville, managing director at the WCD Group, said:

“Plastic waste and pollution remain high on everyone’s climate change agenda, and refilling a reusable helps offset the staggering 1 million plastic drink bottles that are used globally every minute and mostly end up in landfills, harming the environment and oceans.

“By choosing to reuse, Gloucester Rugby fans can refill their cups and reusable bottles with chilled and filtered water that tastes great, for free. We know this will be a popular option and deliver sustainable hydration on match days, in conferencing and hospitality, and for the players. "We are delighted to be working with Premiership Gloucester Rugby to showcase our drinking water solutions throughout Kingsholm."

Gloucester Rugby Sales Director Huw Warren commented:

“It’s great to be working with former Cherry & White captain Pete Glanville and his Gloucester-based business.

“We are always looking to be more sustainable and create less waste, and what WCD have offered us helps reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles whilst also keeping the players, staff, and visitors hydrated.

“We’d like to thank WCD group for what they have brought to our partnership, and we look forward to our relationship continuing to grow in the future.”
