Emirates NBD Group has taken a significant stride towards environmental responsibility by signing the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge, initiated by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.

Joining the seventh cohort of 15 signatories in the UAE, the group commits to implementing carbon emission reduction goals and adopting more sustainable practices aligned with the UAE's national path to climate neutrality by 2050.

The pledge was made during the launch of the 11th National Dialogue for Climate Ambition, held under the theme 'Accelerating the Shift; Decarbonising Ground Mobility,' in collaboration with Emirates Driving Company. This initiative coincides with the UAE's Year of Sustainability, as Dubai prepares to host the Conference of the Parties (COP28) meetings this year.

Key commitments in the pledge include transparently measuring and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, developing science-based plans to reduce carbon footprint, and sharing these strategies with the UAE government to contribute to the national net-zero target by 2050.

Moreover, signatories promise to integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation into their core business values and engage youth, women, and vulnerable segments of society in developing net-zero plans.

Vijay Bains, Group Chief Sustainability Officer and Group Head of ESG at Emirates NBD expressed the bank's commitment to decarbonisation efforts and its dedication to sustainability, integrated into all aspects of the group's operations and decision-making.

Furthermore, in line with its commitment to gender equality and diversity, the Group also joined the UAE Gender Balance Pledge to advance UN Sustainable Development Goal 5—gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. As a pledge member, the banking group will collaborate with the UAE Gender Balance Council to align with the country's vision of achieving the 17 UN SDGs, particularly Goal 5.

Emirates NBD's proactive engagement in both climate and gender equality initiatives demonstrates its dedication to social and environmental progress, making it a significant player in contributing to a sustainable and equitable future for the UAE.
