CarTrawler, a global leader in automobile rental and mobility solutions for travel firms, has announced its certification as a B Corporation (B Corp).

This achievement makes them the first B Corp in Ireland's travel technology sector.

B Corps are businesses verified by B Lab, a non-profit organisation, to meet high standards in social and environmental responsibility, transparency, and accountability. CarTrawler underwent a strict three-year evaluation process by B Lab, which assessed their practices across five key areas: community, environment, workers, governance, and customers.

CarTrawler's commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles played a large role in their B Corp certification. Here are some of their impactful initiatives:

  • Promoting Green Car Rentals: CarTrawler is actively encouraging electric vehicle (EV) rentals by highlighting eco-friendly options, working with suppliers to set EV goals, and educating customers about EV benefits.

  • Investing in Gender Diversity: Partnering with Code First Girls, CarTrawler offers female employees a JavaScript coding course that can lead to a scholarship programme. This initiative promotes diversity within their tech team.

  • Environmental Sustainability: CarTrawler has implemented an environmental management system aiming for a 30% reduction in water, waste, and energy consumption by 2030.

  • Going Beyond: CarTrawler has partnered with the Science Based Targets initiative to achieve zero net emissions for their direct operations (scope 1 & 2) and is actively working to measure and reduce indirect emissions (scope 3).

Peter O’Donovan, CarTrawler Chief Executive, says, "Achieving B Corp certification is a testament to CarTrawler’s unwavering commitment to responsible business practices. Our dedication to ESG principles is deeply rooted in our corporate identity. We believe responsible business practices are not just a choice, but an imperative for a sustainable and better future.

"We are proud to join a global community of like-minded companies dedicated to driving positive change. This certification not only validates our efforts but also inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainability and social responsibility in the travel industry."

Gretta NashCadden, CarTrawler Director of People Partnering and Operations, says, "We are thrilled to stand among certified B Corp organisations and companies in Ireland and globally, leading the charge towards an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. But our journey doesn’t stop here – the B Impact Assessment platform has allowed us to identify, track and learn about improvement opportunities and best practices going forward.

"Our goal is to make travel more sustainable and socially impactful, and we will continue to focus on new and better ways to support this ambition internally, and externally in partnership with our extensive global network of customers and suppliers."
