Key Takeaways

  • Saha Group and DHL Express partner to reduce carbon emissions in air freight.

  • Subsidiaries will leverage DHL's GoGreen Plus service using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

  • SAF offers an over 80% reduction in lifecycle carbon emissions compared to traditional jet fuel.

  • This collaboration sets an example for sustainable logistics practices.

Saha Group has teamed up with DHL Express to promote sustainability in air freight operations.

Saha Group will use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through DHL's GoGreen Plus service to reduce the environmental effect of their air shipments. SAF has an amazing lifespan carbon emission reduction of more than 80% when compared to conventional jet fuel.

GoGreen Plus Empowers Sustainable Shipping

Pipope Chokwatana, Board of Director and Executive Director of Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Public Company Limited, says: "As part of this collaboration, our 70 subsidiaries under Saha Group are fully committed to utilising DHL Express’ GoGreen Plus service for our air transportation activities, both export and import.

"The service empowers us to reduce our Scope 3 emissions through the use of SAF, which is made from alternative raw materials such as used cooking oil, agricultural waste, and green hydrogen in the future. The SAF can reduce carbon emissions by more than 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. By adopting this innovative solution, we are delivering change to our world."

Understanding Scope Emissions

For clarity, Scope 1 emissions come directly from a company's activities, Scope 2 emissions stem from purchased energy, and Scope 3 contains all other indirect emissions across an organisation's value chain.

The Signing Ceremony and Beyond

The official signing ceremony for this partnership between Saha Group and DHL Express took place during the 28th edition of the Saha Group Fair on June 28th, 2024.

Inspiring Change in the Industry

"The partnership with Saha Group is a step in the right direction. Together, we want to make international express shipping more sustainable," said Herbert Vongpusanachai, Managing Director of DHL Express Thailand and Head of Indochina. "The fact that we are offering the GoGreen Plus service through the use of SAF in our international network lays the foundation for this. We hope this agreement will inspire other companies to transition to low-emission transportation services using sustainable aviation fuel."

The GoGreen Plus Advantage

The GoGreen Plus service aligns with DHL Group's ambitious sustainability goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. It empowers customers to reduce their indirect Scope 3 emissions throughout their value chain, including transportation and distribution. Also, it supports customers with voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reporting and progress tracking towards their decarbonisation goals.

Through adopting SAF, companies can make a substantial difference, achieving an over 80% reduction in lifecycle carbon emissions for their air freight shipments. This partnership between Saha Group and DHL Express demonstrates a clear commitment to a greener future for air freight transportation.
