L&T Construction, part of Larsen & Toubro, has reached significant milestones in the development of the Power Elements and Grid packages for the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company's colossal green hydrogen plant.

This joint venture, located in Saudi Arabia's NEOM region and backed by ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM, aims to produce green hydrogen at a massive scale for global export.

With a total investment of USD 8.4 billion, the project has secured full financial close, and construction is well underway, thanks to support from 23 local, regional, and international financial institutions.

L&T was awarded contracts by Air Products, the exclusive off-taker of green ammonia from the project, to establish renewable energy generation, storage, and grid infrastructure. The total value of the awarded packages amounts to USD 2.779 billion. Notable progress has been made in surveys, design and engineering, temporary facilities, and procurement of critical items.

Under these contracts, L&T will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 2.2 GWac PV Solar Plant, 1.65 GW Wind Generation Balance of Plant, and a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System.

Additionally, they will construct three 380 kV Switching Stations, 306 km of 380 kV Overhead lines, and underground cables to enhance the Kingdom's Grid network. The scope also includes the Energy Power Monitoring System (EPMS) for the entire network.

Mr. S. N. Subrahmanyan, the Chairman designate and Managing Director of Larsen & Toubro, expressed his appreciation for the Kingdom's visionary approach and the project's promoters. He highlighted the potential of such large-scale initiatives to accelerate the global energy transition, aligning with L&T's growth aspirations and commitment to professionalism, timely delivery, and quality.

Mr. T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director & Sr. Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, emphasised their pride in being part of the project, which will integrate 4 GW of renewable energy and produce up to 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen per day.

Wolfgang Brand, Vice President of NEOM Green Hydrogen from Air Products, expressed enthusiasm for the progress made in the world's largest green hydrogen production facility in NEOM, highlighting the commencement of the lighthouse project and the partnership with L&T to produce carbon-free hydrogen using renewable energy.

David R. Edmondson, CEO of NEOM Green Hydrogen Company, added his excitement about leading the global energy transition and emphasised the importance of partnering with Larsen and Toubro for the green hydrogen generation, grid infrastructure, and storage aspects of the project.
