Companies need CCUS to reduce and offset carbon emissions and meet their decarbonisation targets. VAISALA
  • Measures carbon emissions more accurately and transparently at lower costs.

  • Offers real-time data at regular intervals to make improvements.

Vaisala, a Finnish company offering products and services for environmental and industrial measurement, has introduced a carbon measurement tool that is handy for the hard-to-abate industries.

The new technology is designed to streamline carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) projects, which help combat climate change. With CCUS, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions can be captured, stored, and used. Of late, the area has become a focus of investments, but it is very important to measure how much carbon is actually captured to ensure the veracity and effectiveness of the technology.

Vaisala's new solution, MGP241, measures CO2 and humidity in real-time, making CCUS projects more transparent and cost-effective. The highlight of this new product is that it provides data at regular intervals at a much lower cost, making it more affordable and accessible for industries working on decarbonisation.

Hard-to-abate sectors often struggle to find solutions that suit their needs, and industries like chemicals, oil and gas, cement manufacturing, etc., depend heavily on CCUS because their operations emit a huge amount of CO2. So, an innovative solution like MGP241 is very much needed at a time when the presence of carbon and other pollutants is increasingly high in the atmosphere.

The MGP241 is a sustainable, affordable solution with lower maintenance and is more efficient than older gas analysers. This makes it easier for companies to track their progress in carbon capture and measure its effectiveness with transparency.

Julia Salovaara, Strategy and Business Development Manager at Vaisala said: "No one knows yet if CCUS will indeed grow to be a significant solution in our fight against climate change. The technology is still in its early stages. What we can solve now is how to make measuring these projects as transparent and efficient as possible to leave no room for guesswork or sugarcoating the results – our numbers don’t lie."
