Imefy to Supply Transformer for Spain’s Largest Hydrogen Plant
bp PLC

The project is worth over €70 million, with additional funding from the Spanish government.
Iberdrola España supplies 200GWh/year from Iberdrola España's photovoltaic and wind projects.
Imefy, a Spanish company, has been selected by bp and Iberdrola to supply them with the main transformer for the largest green hydrogen plant in Spain.
The 25 MW renewable hydrogen production plant will be commissioned at bp’s refinery in Castellón, where it will produce hydrogen from renewable electricity.

Imefy will arrange the delivery of the transformer with a power rating of 37 MVA and a 66/30 kV conversion ratio, at the beginning of 2026.
The €70 million project is a brainchild of bp and Iberdrola under their company, Castellón Green Hydrogen. It has also received funding from Spain's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, financed by the EU’s NextGenerationEU initiative.
The green hydrogen produced at the plant will replace the grey hydrogen currently used at bp’s refinery, reducing emissions by 23,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, equivalent to taking off more than 5,000 cars from the roads.
