Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), Hyundai Motor Group's first dedicated EV mass-production plant, has deployed XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell trucks for clean logistics operations.

The trucks will hit the roads, and unlike traditional ones, they will release no harmful emissions. Initially, 21 heavy-duty trucks will operate, making up over one-third of Glovis America’s truck fleet at HMGMA. They will transport vehicle parts from suppliers to factories and consolidation centres.

“At HMGMA, we are committed to creating sustainable transportation solutions,” said Oscar Kwon, HMGMA CEO. “Our Hyundai XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell trucks that support the Metaplant release zero emissions and offer a cleaner alternative to the traditional freight logistics methods used at other manufacturing facilities.”

This deployment is part of the company's broader hydrogen strategy under its HTWO brand. HTWO, or Hydrogen and Humanity, focuses on developing hydrogen technologies for production, transportation, and usage. The target is to build a closed-loop logistics system that will use hydrogen for its operations.

Glovis America and Hyundai will set up a mobile refuelling station at the plant. Plans for a permanent hydrogen production and refuelling station are underway and will be announced soon. Overall, the project is part of Hyundai's efforts to reduce its environmental impact and support sustainable logistics operations.

“HMGMA’s deployment of XCIENT for logistics and operations is one of the main initiatives of HTWO,” said Jim Park, SVP, commercial vehicle and hydrogen business development, Hyundai Motor North America. “This is delivering on our strategy and vision to showcase a closed-loop hydrogen logistics ecosystem and improve the environmental sustainability of manufacturing operations.”
