  • The partnership will help attract investors and fund biodiversity projects.

  • Biodiversity is vital for accelerating climate action.

Triodos Investment Management, a Netherlands-based leader in impact investing, has collaborated with Fondaction, an organisation based in Canada that promotes sustainable development, to bridge the finance gap for biodiversity and natural capital solutions.

The focus at COP16 in Cali, Colombia, is how finance can play a larger role in combating biodiversity loss. The two organisations will work together to create a fund and draw in private investments to support projects promoting climate resilience and protecting nature.

Requirement of Larger Funds

Large funds are needed to finance big biodiversity projects, and if we do not act immediately, we will miss many opportunities to combat climate change. Currently, the majority of funds for biodiversity are small, making it difficult to attract large investors. Also, these investments should be genuinely beneficial and deliver real results without any greenwashing attempt.

All Market Focus

These funds usually attract developing markets due to their rich and fragile ecosystems. But, developed countries should also attract investors to protect their biodiversity and natural resources. It is increasingly important to find ways to finance and develop biodiversity projects in developed regions.

Collaboration

Biodiversity conservation requires collaboration at all levels. Triodos and Fondaction are partnering to share expertise, innovate, and create effective solutions. The global finance community should build partnerships to improve biodiversity conservation efforts.
