The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) received the 'Best ESG Integration' award in Bahrain at the Arab Federation of Capital Markets (AFCM) Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony, held at Muscat's Rozna restaurant on May 9th, recognised the bank's achievements in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. The event was part of the AFCM Annual Conference hosted at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel in Muscat.

The 'Best ESG Integration' award is one of the new categories introduced through AFCM's partnership with The Global Economics, a prominent financial website. Judges from The Global Economics evaluated several criteria, including ESG frameworks, key performance indicators, sustainability initiatives, and overall commitment to responsible practices. NBB's recognition as the top bank for ESG integration in Bahrain reflects its dedication to ethical conduct and social responsibility.

Usman Ahmed, Group CEO of NBB, expressed delight at the ESG award and emphasised the bank's commitment to ESG matters. NBB has set ambitious sustainability goals and is actively promoting positive change in the financial sector. The bank will continue its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, engage with communities, and enhance responsible governance based on recent ESG achievements.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, CEO of Bahrain Bourse and former AFCM chairman, commended NBB's recognition, highlighting the importance of ESG integration for transparency in Bahrain's capital market. He emphasised the alignment of ESG practices with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The award was presented by Haitham Al Salmi, CEO of the Muscat Stock Exchange and Chairman of AFCM, and Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, CEO of Bahrain Bourse and previous AFCM chairman. The awards gala dinner brought together representatives from Arab stock exchanges, corporate sponsors, brokerage firms, and leading financial institutions, fostering networking opportunities and discussions on the financial situation in the MENA region.
