Hong Kong Launches Sustainable Finance Internship Programme

Hong Kong's Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group is behind the Sustainable Finance Internship Programme. Its goal is to give Hong Kong students more internship opportunities as part of efforts to make the sustainable finance industry stronger.

The Steering Group is co-chaired by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission. Its members are the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, the Insurance Authority, and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority.

The group said it is working with the financial industry and academic institutions to fix problems with capacity and data and to create tools for market players. It will be taken further by the initiative, which will give students hands-on experience in sustainable finance. This will broaden students' understanding of the sector and related employment opportunities, thereby inspiring them to specialise in this field.

Available sustainable finance internships will be listed in the Centre for Green and Sustainable Finance's centralised internship repository. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Securities and Futures Commission, Insurance Authority, and Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority have all encouraged their employees to take part in the initiative. Members of the Steering Group will soon start hiring interns to help them with their own work on sustainable finance policy and market development.
