British Official: Morocco, UK Developing Partnerships in Commerce and Green Finance
Lord Tariq Ahmad, British Minister of State for South and Central Asia, North Africa, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth, stated that Morocco and the United Kingdom are creating strong ties, particularly in trade, green finance, and education.
Lord Ahmad said:
"Our kingdoms are working together to deliver a shared vision of economies that are innovative and focused on building a sustainable future, resilient to the global challenges we all face."
The British official lauded the leadership of King Mohammed VI, the reform agenda outlined in Morocco's New Development Model, and Moroccan efforts to assist growth, stability, and climate change adaption across Africa.
“I look forward to strengthening our economic ties, particularly between our financial centres in the City of London and Casablanca, to seeing the continued return of British tourists to Morocco, and to hosting the first UK-Morocco Association Agreement sub-committee on trade in London later this month,” he added.
According to the statement, discussions centred on expanding collaboration between the United Kingdom and Morocco in the areas of trade, education, climate, clean energy, and green growth, as well as regional and international issues of common interest, such as the situation in Libya and the global repercussions of the conflict in Ukraine on food and energy security.
Lord Tariq Ahmad also met with financial regulators, bankers, and investors to celebrate the expanding partnership between the United Kingdom and Morocco and to mobilise private capital to promote a low-carbon transition.
Before the first meeting of the Moroccan-British subcommittee on commerce, Lord Ahmad also met with representatives of the British University of Coventry, which will shortly begin offering UK-accredited courses in business studies and engineering in Bouskoura, according to the statement.
