The Green bond is part of a $4 billion underwritten public offering issued on February 22, 2022. The money from the green bond is aligned with the Company's Green Financing Framework.
Amgen has increasingly been active in environmental-related activities, including a 33 per cent reduction in carbon emissions, a 30 per cent reduction in water use and a 28 per cent reduction in waste disposed of since 2007. The reduction targets were achieved while the firm increased production capacity and expanded its presence to around 100 countries.
Amgen also pledged to achieve carbon neutrality in its business by 2027 in January 2021 besides reducing water use by 40 per cent and waste disposed of by 75 per cent.
"As a science-based company, we understand the profound impact that climate change is having on human health around the world," said Judy Brown, senior vice president, Corporate Affairs at Amgen. "This green bond will fund specific projects across our company that are intended to mitigate our impact on the environment."
