Aena, a leading company in the aviation industry, has taken a significant step towards environmental responsibility and social consciousness by securing a sustainable syndicated credit line (sustainability-linked RCF) amounting to €2 billion.

This move reaffirms the company's unwavering dedication to the environment, social welfare, and exemplary corporate governance.

The financing, thoughtfully arranged by 14 esteemed national and international financial institutions, is spearheaded by Banco Santander as the Arranger and Sustainable Agent, while Banco Sabadell acts as the Arranger and Administrative Agent.

This landmark credit line offers a considerable extension of up to five years for Aena's general corporate needs, with the possibility of an additional two-year extension, all under highly favourable financial terms.

What sets this financing apart and highlights Aena's commitment to sustainability is its unique interest rate structure. Unlike traditional credit arrangements, the interest rate on this credit line is not solely dependent on credit ratings; instead, it is tied to the achievement of a specific objective - the reduction of CO2 emissions. This innovative approach reinforces Aena's determination to play a crucial role in combating climate change.

The company's current revolving credit facilities worth €1.45 billion, maturing in 2024 and 2025, will be duly cancelled with the new financing in place, streamlining the company's financial obligations.

Aena's Stellar ESG Performance Recognised by FTSE4Good Index

In yet another commendable achievement, Aena has been bestowed with the highest rating and continued inclusion in the prestigious British FTSE4Good Index, securing a remarkable position in the 97th percentile.

The FTSE4Good Index, known for featuring companies globally with exceptional ESG practices, recognises Aena's relentless efforts towards sustainability and responsible business practices.

For the comprehensive evaluation process conducted by analyst FTSE Russell, over 400 indicators were scrutinised, encompassing vital aspects such as climate change, pollution and resources, labour standards, corporate governance, fiscal transparency, anticorruption, human rights, and community health and safety. Aena excelled in all areas, earning a perfect score of 5 out of 5.

The rising significance of ESG criteria in the investment landscape has led investors to prioritise companies like Aena, which prioritise sustainability in their operations. As ESG factors increasingly influence investment decisions, Aena's exemplary performance is undoubtedly a key attraction for responsible investors.

Aena's outstanding rating and continuous inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index serve as a testament to the company's exceptional sustainability performance and its strategic and cross-sectional approach to tackling environmental, social, and governance challenges. This recognition reinforces Aena's position as a leading force in driving positive change within the aviation industry and beyond.
