Womble Bond Dickinson's (WBD) commitment to sustainability has once again garnered acclaim as the company successfully retained its prestigious gold certification from EcoVadis, the world's foremost and highly regarded provider of business sustainability ratings.

EcoVadis conducts a comprehensive evaluation based on four essential pillars: Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, Environment, and Sustainable Procurement.

This evaluation holds substantial significance as businesses around the globe increasingly factor in the ratings of potential clients, partners, and suppliers. In the latest assessment for 2023, the survey encompassed over 100,000 companies hailing from 200 diverse industries across 175 countries.

Having previously achieved an outstanding rating in Environment and advanced ratings in both Labor & Human Rights and Ethics during 2022, WBD has successfully maintained these commendable ratings while notably elevating its scores in Environment, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. This impressive accomplishment has propelled the company to the upper echelon, positioning it within the top two per cent of globally reporting enterprises.

To attain this remarkable feat, WBD has implemented a series of impactful changes within the past year. The firm has introduced a robust sustainable procurement strategy that encompasses clear, quantifiable, and qualitative objectives.

Furthermore, WBD has finalised an extensive scope 3 carbon emissions report, a pivotal tool in shaping comprehensive carbon reduction strategies. Additionally, concerted actions have been taken to mitigate discrimination within professional development and promotion processes. Notably, the firm has achieved the coveted silver Investors in People 'We Invest in Wellbeing' status.

In recognition of its holistic efforts, WBD was distinguished as the ESG Firm of the Year at The Legal 500's esteemed Northern Powerhouse Awards. The company also secured Planet Mark's Data Quality award and attained recognition as a top 75 employer in the influential Social Mobility Employer Index.

Nick Barwood, UK Chair at Womble Bond Dickinson, expressed his elation, stating:

"With each passing year, the benchmarks for attaining the 'gold' status become more rigorous. Thus, retaining our gold certification and augmenting our score is truly a momentous accomplishment, achieved through a collective and resolute endeavour across various teams within our organisation. At WBD, we aspire to exemplify responsible business practices, working assiduously to ensure optimal outcomes for our personnel, clients, and communities. EcoVadis plays an integral role in our ongoing assessment of responsible business pursuits."
