Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) Wins "Transport Deal of the Year" for Financing Vietnam's First Fully Electric Public Transport Bus Fleet and EV Charging Network.

WFW has been awarded the "Transport Deal of the Year" at the 2023 The Asset Triple A Sustainable Infrastructure Awards for its work advising the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on a US$135 million financing package for VinFast Trading and Production Limited Liability Company (VinFast).

The project will create Vietnam's first fully electric public transport bus fleet and first national electric vehicle (EV) charging network.

A cross-border WFW team based in Hanoi and Hong Kong acted as ADB's international and local Vietnamese counsel. The team was led by Matt Lorimer, Partner, and Linh Doan, Head of Asia Projects & Corporate.

The Asset is a well-known business news and research organisation based in Hong Kong. The Asset Triple A Sustainable Infrastructure Awards honours the institutions and deals in Asia that have made a difference in the field of sustainable infrastructure.

Lorimer said: "We are delighted that this transaction has received recognition, and we are pleased to have worked with ADB and VinFast to support the financing of a project that delivers a high-impact transport solution for Vietnam."

Doan added: "Sustainability and infrastructure is key to WFW's business strategy and values, so it was a great transaction for our team to get involved in where we were able to support our client on this award-winning infrastructure deal. Congratulations to everyone involved."

The project is a major step forward for Vietnam in its efforts to reduce its carbon emissions and improve air quality. The electric buses will be powered by renewable energy, and the EV charging network will make it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles.

The award is a testament to WFW's expertise in sustainable infrastructure financing. The firm has a long track record of advising clients on complex and innovative projects that help address climate change and other environmental challenges.
