Highlights

  • Verra is partnering with EPİAŞ to launch the first exchange-based trading of Verra-certified carbon credits.

  • This will provide a transparent and efficient marketplace for voluntary carbon credit trading in Türkiye.

  • Workshops will be held to educate market participants on the trading process.

Verra, a global leader in climate action and sustainable development standards, has announced a new partnership with EPİAŞ, Türkiye’s energy exchange.

This will allow for the first-ever exchange-based trading of Verra-certified carbon credits on the EPİAŞ platform.

At Climate Week NYC, the CEOs of Verra and EPİAŞ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch this partnership. The MoU outlines the terms for Verra-certified carbon credits to be traded on the EPİAŞ platform. These carbon credits are verified reductions and removals of greenhouse gas emissions. With an exchange-based system, buyers and sellers will have a regulated and transparent marketplace.

In addition to voluntary carbon credit trading, EPİAŞ will also hold workshops as part of this partnership. These workshops will educate potential market participants.

Verra’s CEO, Mandy Rambharos, said this partnership will increase global access to high-quality carbon credits. Putting these credits on EPİAŞ’s existing platform will build credibility and transparency in Türkiye’s voluntary carbon market. The workshops will drive more participation and understanding of the market.

Taha Meli Arvas, CEO of EPİAŞ, said this agreement will be the world’s first exchange-based voluntary carbon credit trading platform. It will have a central counterparty connected to registries to ensure verification and smooth trading of credits. This will add to EPİAŞ’s environmental market products and give participants access to Verra-certified credits.

The launch of exchange-based voluntary carbon credit trading on the EPİAŞ platform is anticipated in the coming weeks.
