TCL Electronics, a renowned consumer electronics brand and one of the world's top two TV brands, recently unveiled its 2022 ESG report, presenting an account of the remarkable milestones achieved in TCL's sustainability journey thus far, along with its vision for the future.

At the forefront of this journey is TCL's commitment to delivering eco-conscious products that resonate with consumers. Against the backdrop of World Environment Day, which garnered global attention for its environmental impact, TCL is emphasising how its products can inspire individuals to embrace more sustainable lifestyles.

Thoughtful Design and Planet-Friendly Materials: Packaging with Purpose

Packaging materials play a crucial role in fostering a circular economy. With TCL having shipped 23.78 million branded smart TVs worldwide in 2022, the brand must ensure that its packaging adheres to rigorous environmental standards.

To this end, TCL has invested in innovative alternatives to conventional materials. It promotes the use of soybean ink, recyclable paper, and packaging materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Additionally, TCL incorporates ABS recyclable plastics, and certain initiatives have eliminated non-recyclable packaging, paving the way for reduced plastic usage in the future.

Moreover, TCL strives to minimise the overall amount of packaging required. By reducing the size of packaging boxes and trimming down product manuals, TCL effectively reduces the weight and volume of its products.

Consequently, this reduces the quantity loaded into containers and minimises greenhouse gas emissions resulting from transportation. In 2022, TCL introduced an industry-first embedded and integral honeycomb-board packaging solution. This innovation not only enhances the cushioning performance of packaging materials but also reduces thickness, resulting in additional space savings in shipping containers.

Creating Energy-Efficient, Long-Lasting Products for the Future

TCL's commitment to eco-friendliness extends beyond packaging and user manuals. The brand's R&D efforts are focused on designing inherently eco-friendly products, with improvements in practicality, durability, and efficiency. This not only enables consumers to save resources but also safeguards the environment.

TCL products surpass national energy efficiency standards, with selected washing machines rated as A-class for both energy efficiency and noise level. TCL refrigerators incorporate Twin Eco Inverter technology to promote energy efficiency. TCL TVs feature an 'eco-mode' option that encourages sustainable product usage, enabling users to enjoy exceptional audiovisual experiences while limiting energy consumption. Smart Charging, available on TCL smartphones, intelligently adjusts the charging pattern based on user habits, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing battery ageing.

ESG Achievements and the Pledge for a Sustainable Future

The findings in TCL's ESG Report 2022 embody the brand's mission to enhance the lives of customers worldwide. By 2025, TCL has committed to significant environmental goals, including an 18% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a 27% decrease in water consumption, a 13.5% reduction in electricity consumption, a 70% decrease in natural gas consumption, and up to a 10% reduction in EPS consumption.
