The New Zealand Super Fund has achieved a flawless score in the latest GSR (governance, sustainability, resilience) scoreboard released by GlobalSWF, the leading experts on international sovereign wealth funds.

Securing the top position on this year's list, the Super Fund shares the honour with prestigious counterparts such as Singapore's Temasek, Canada's Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, and Nigeria's sovereign wealth fund NSIA.

This remarkable achievement marks the second consecutive year that the Super Fund has dominated the GSR scoreboard.

Introduced in 2020, Global SWF's GSR scoreboard evaluates sovereign wealth funds and public pension funds based on 25 rigorous criteria, encompassing transparency, accountability, governance structure, ethical standards, policies, and alignment with sustainable development goals.

Adding to their accomplishments, the Super Fund was recently lauded as the best financial performer over the past decade among 50 prominent sovereign wealth funds by Global SWF. An impressive annualized return of 12.1 per cent between FY13 and FY22 firmly solidified its position as a frontrunner.

Anne Maree O'Connor, Head of Sustainable Investment at the NZ Super Fund, expressed her satisfaction with these dual successes, affirming the Guardians' commitment to embracing a sustainable finance approach in their investment strategies. The outcomes not only exemplify their dedication to achieving sustainable objectives but also demonstrate their ability to fulfill their financial purpose, ultimately delivering robust returns for all New Zealanders.
